Compared analysis of the fares of French regional trains and coaches

Franch regions are the transit authorities for the so-called “regional interest” mobility offer and, since 2016, have been free to set the fares they wish for the routes they organize. Currently, each region offers variable fares depending on the line, the day of the week, the season and the way of purchasing. As a result, the regional train fares sometimes lacks visibility and legibility.

In this context, the FNAUT (National Federation of Transport Users’ Associations) wishes to offer an exhaustive view of the fares offered by the different regions, with a view to bring the fares closer between them.

6t research office offers a three-step service: on the one hand, an exhaustive inventory of the fares available, on the other hand, a comparison of fares and, finally, proposals for ways of making them more comparable. In particular, attention will be paid to the price structure (do we systematically pay less on weekends? he first Saturday of the month? Are there systematically very low-price offers by taking tickets a long time in advance?), modes of access to fares (online, at ticket offices, in the form of timetables or on route planners, etc.) and to the associated general terms and conditions of sale (validity period, flexibility for refunds, etc.).
