Traffic analysis of a charging station network

As a manufacturer and installer of recharging stations, Driveco wishes to enter the buoyant retail market by installing between 5,000 and 10,000 additional stations over the next 24 months.

Until now, Driveco has adopted a model as a manufacturer and installer of charging stations in which cash flow was ensured by the sale of the equipment and its connection. This model has the advantage of not exposing Driveco to traffic risk: the sale of electricity is carried out by the shopping centre operator. On the other hand, it does not take advantage of the opportunities offered by the rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles. The upcoming project is an opportunity to reflect on the opportunity to change the model. On the one hand, new government subsidies provided by the LOM reduce the fixed costs of installation, which tends to lower the profitability threshold of the charging stations. On the other hand, electric mobility is growing rapidly in France and Europe. These two factors are working in the same direction to encourage a shift from a manufacturer/installer model to an operator model in which Driveco would take charge of construction, installation, but also maintenance and the sale of electricity.

The present study aims to assess the profitability of Driveco’s charging station operation projects. It assumes a projection of the electric car fleet to 2030, as well as a detailed understanding of charging behaviour.
