Assisting the Metropolis of Lyon in the reinforcement of its Low Emission Zone

In order to improve air quality in the urban area, the Metropolis of Lyon has introduced a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in the center of the city. This measure prohibits the circulation of Euro 3 or older diesel commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles from January 1, 2020. Since January 1, 2021, this ban has been extended to euro 4 diesels and euro 2 and 3 gasoline vehicles.

Today, the Metropolis wishes to reinforce the LEZ by including passenger cars in the system. It also wishes to strengthen the accompanying measures, so that the effort to improve air quality does not fall disproportionately on the poorer populations or on the inhabitants of areas dependent on the car. In this context, the consortium composed of Explain, 6t and Algoé is assisting the Metropolis of Lyon in the evaluation of the impact of the LEZ, the identification and evaluation of accompanying measures and the citizen consultation.
