Encouraging Voluntary Travel Behaviour Change towards a reduction of solo car use

Alternative solutions to solo-driving are plentiful, but lack of knowledge about these services, negative images and preconceptions, as well as well-entrenched habits are strong barriers to behaviour change.

Starting from this premise, and with the goal of optimizing the use of existing transport services, local authorities, researchers and consultancy firms have developed Voluntary Travel Behaviour Change (VTBC) programs, which have been experimented around the world in the past two decades. Results from these experiments demonstrate that these programs are highly effective, but also very costly.

6t’s ambition is to leverage Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) to develop an automated Voluntary Travel Behaviour Change program, which will allow for the deployment of these programs at a much larger scale, and thus, for a much larger impact of behaviour change. We named this tool ACCTIV. As part of this command from the Paris City Hall, we designed and conceived a beta version of ACCTIV, and adapted it to the Parisian context. This automated VTBC program could be experimented at a large scale on all Paris City Hall employees, or envisioned as a tool to accompany the Restricted Circulation Zone (ZCR) in the Greater Paris Metropolitain Region.
