Study of telework and lifestyles in the context of th sanitary crisis in 2020

Telework, (im)mobility and lifestyles. These three notions appeared together as a transformation of the French people daily life during the coronavirus crisis. The first objective of this study is to measure telework and it’s impact on workers’ mobility. This new organization of mobility has several impacts on peoples’ lifestyle. So, this study aims to capture the effects of the containment on the practice of telework and lifestyles and to evaluate their durability. We used a methodology developed by 6t bureau de recherche in its research program CO3MD. The first step is a bibliographical situational analysis. Then we diffused a quantitative survey and collected the answer of a representative sample of the French population. The collected data allows us to analyze the daily mobility of workers and teleworkers (rebuilding of the displacements and distances of several profiles of workers and teleworkers, transports modes used, activity sequences…).

The first part of the study explore the relationship between telework and mobility. Mobility and lifestyles are qualified for each workers and teleworkers profiles. The potential impact of a generalization of telework is estimated with a projection of the future mobility of the future teleworkers. The results show a reduction of mobility (in number of displacements and distances) and we estimate the related reduction of GHG emissions. In the second part of the study, we examine the lifestyles during the containment and the degree of transformation in the practice of alimentation and consumption. Indeed, the daily life as been deeply transformed : the purchase frequencies have been reduced and neighborhood stores are more solicited as online purchases.
