The development of micromobility solutions for private or shared use

This study endeavours to shed light on the perceptions and expectations regarding the rapid rise of micromobility (private or shared-use). Cities are experiencing the increased integration of new technology platforms into their transportation systems. While micromobility solutions may offer great opportunities to reduce congestion and help governments meet goals around greenhouse gas emissions, these new platforms are challenging to regulate since they often do not fit into existing ordinances or laws.

Thus, the City of Paris wishes to understand in a refined way how micromobility and especially shared electric scooters might reshape transportation in cities. The City wishes also to apprehend what regulations have been implemented to maintain users safety and organize right-of-way (on sidewalks, cycling lanes or streets), licensing requirements and parking restrictions.

To answer this demand, 6t developed an international benchmark on best practices in the micromobility field by reviewing 10 European countries and severals cities in the United States. Our report highlights how cities are putting policy into action.
