Shared mobility and alternative transport modes

National Survey on Carsharing – 2019 Edition

This research is part of the 6t multi-year research programme called CO3MD (Building a Tool for Measuring and Managing Sustainable Mobility).

The objective is to propose the first major French study taking into account the cross consequences of car-sharing services and other mobility services on the rate of car ownership in households and their travel practices.

By means of an online questionnaire survey conducted among the users of carsharing services, this study aims to measure their impact both in terms of parking space saved and of decrease of kilometres travelled by car in France. A careful analysis of the phenomena of car equipment reduction and modal change among members of the selected shared car services makes it possible to predict how many kilometres would have been driven in the absence of these services and thus to measure their effect on traffic in the cities in which they are deployed.
