Prospective study: behaviour change towards sustainable mobility and alternative fuel vehicles

Limiting emissions from mobility is a pressing challenge, especially where alternatives to the private car are scarce. While the negative environmental impact of gasoline and diesel fuels are well-known, private cars remain widely used, especially in low-density areas where distances are long and modal shift is impossible. How can the environmental impact of personal vehicles be reduced in these complex settings? Alternative fuels, generating fewer emissions, offer a promising solution. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as a review of literature, this study aims at understanding French car owners’ attitude toward their fuel’s environmental impact. The factors encouraging the adoption of alternative fuels have also been explored.
